The Team

Seattle-based GridNetworks is run by a recognized team of Internet veterans with a track of building successful, market-leading network technology and service provider companies.

The GridNetworks team is now applying its expertise to change the way media, entertainment, and networking companies deliver television programming to viewers world-wide. The team is focused and committed to Powering Internet Television.

Anthony C. Naughtin, President and CEO

Tony Naughtin brings 25 years of leadership experience to GridNetworks. Since 1991, he has focused on building innovative network technology companies, and in the process has built productive relationships with premier customers, alliance partners, venture capital firms, and investment banks. In 1996 Mr. Naughtin co-founded Internap Network Services Corporation (NASDAQ: INAP) where he served as President and CEO until August of 2001, took the company to a $110 million run rate, and completed two successful public stock offerings. Mr. Naughtin has served as a director on the boards of a variety of public and private companies including: Internap (Atlanta); Counterpane Internet Security, Inc. (Mt. View) - now a subsidiary of BT; GraniteEdge Networks, Inc. (Bellevue); GoAhead Software (Bellevue); Fine.com (Seattle); and most recently GridNetworks. In addition, he has been involved with the Washington Software Alliance (WSA) as both a Director and Vice-Chairman since 2000, and was a founding director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Washington School of Business. Mr. Naughtin started his career in the early 1980s with Cablevision Systems Corporation. He holds a B.A. in Communications from the University of Iowa and is a graduate of the Creighton University School of Law.

Christopher Wheeler, COO

Christopher Wheeler has extensive experience in technology, product and service commercialization, as well as corporate operations and business building. He is a pioneer of network infrastructure commercialization, having led the team which brought the National Science Foundation's NSFNet, the precursor of the Internet, to the Northwest Region for the first time in 1988. He holds multiple patents and is a recipient of the ComputerWorld Smithsonian Award for networking technology.

Christopher was previously Co-Founder and COO for configuration management venture, Network Clarity; Co-founder, CTO, Senior VP of Operations and Engineering for network optimization service company, Internap Network Services; Founder and CEO of interGlobe Networks a network infrastructure consulting firm; and member of the original core team and Director of Architecture for NorthWestNet, a NSFNet Regional Network.

Jeff Payne, CTO

Jeff Payne has been involved in the development and commercialization of high-value Internet applications for over 20 years. His career has spanned systems design, operations, software and hardware design & development and key executive and leadership positions.

As Spry's Principal Systems Architect, Jeff was instrumental in the development of the first successful consumer Internet access software package, Internet-In-A-Box. As the Chief Architect for SpryNet, he led the design and deployment of Internet service provider SpryNet. As RealNetworks’ General Manager of Broadcast Operations and Chief Architect of Real Broadcast Network, Jeff established the first global Content Delivery Network for Internet audio and video. Later, as co-founder and CTO of Bivio Networks, he helped to devise and develop the first field programmable multi-gigabit packet processing platform.

Mike Ortega, Vice President, Sales

Mike brings more than 27 years of managerial and technical expertise to the company. Prior to joining GridNetworks, Mike was Senior Vice President of Sales at SyncVoice.

Before that, Mr. Ortega held the position of corporate vice president of worldwide sales for InterNAP Network Services. Mr. Ortega was in charge of all sales before and after InterNAP's IPO and helped position the company as an industry leader in high performance managed IP services.

Prior to joining InterNAP, Mr. Ortega spent 19 years in the telecommunications and computer industries where he held increasingly senior management positions in sales with MCI, Wang Laboratories and Hewlett-Packard.

Mr. Ortega has a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Bo Wandell, Vice President, Business Development

Bo Wandell has enjoyed an extensive career managing sales, marketing and business development activities for high technology companies since 1983. He started his sales career with Tymnet, one of Silicon Valley's first high technology startups. Later, as Legato Corporation’s Director of North American Sales, Bo designed and executed the enterprise, channel and OEM sales strategies that were the foundation of Legato's rapid growth and initial public offering.

In 1993, Bo returned to Seattle to join Spry as Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Business Development. He established Spry's successful retail channel and numerous strategic partnerships that fueled the explosive success of Internet-In-Box, the first consumer Internet access software package. One of those strategic partnerships was CompuServe (now AOL), who acquired Spry in early 1995 for $100M.

After Spry, Bo served as VP of Worldwide Sales and Business Development for iCat Corporation, a provider of e-commerce software and services, later sold to Intel. In 1998, Bo founded SafeHarbor Technology Corporation, a web-based technical support company where he served as President and oversaw sales, marketing, business development and venture capital financing.

Jon Miller, Vice President, Content Delivery

Jon Miller is a technology leader with 15 years of experience in technology development and operations in both startup companies and established enterprises. Most recently he was Senior Director of Technology Development for Getty Images where he led software development, QA, and program management teams.

As an early employee of Internap Network Services Jon built and led teams responsible for core network design, ongoing engineering, and operations. He also led research and development of new service offerings to complement the optimized IP network service.

Additionally Jon's background includes IT and operations roles in established enterprises such as Keane and Washington Mutual as well as the early stages of Real Networks and Intermind.
